Induction of New Members
The Dart Society’s strategic plan calls for growing the organization by 100 members in 2011. Subsequent growth through induction and other means will enable us to build critical mass in the organization that will enable us to have the volunteers and resources we need to achieve our goals of providing outreach and support to journalists who cover trauma and violence and, as board Treasurer Tina Croley envisions, putting a Dart in every newsroom.
Membership provides an extraordinary opportunity for journalists throughout the world who have not had the benefit of a Dart Center Ochberg Fellowship to be part of this network of exceptional journalists. That means they can participate in the Dart Society’s projects, avail themselves of the professional and interpersonal support of other members, and have support in promoting excellence in the coverage of trauma and violence.
Here’s the process:
1. Identify a journalist who meets the criteria for membership, and ask them if they will provide application materials. Click here to read the FAQ.
2. Write a letter to the Dart Society Growth and Membership Committee outlining your sponsorship of the inductee, including his or her contact information. Dart Society Director Deirdre Stoelzle Graves will work with the potential inductee to ensure the application is completed and forwarded to the committee.
3. The Dart Society’s Growth and Membership Committee will review applications and forward recommendations to the Board of Directors in advance 0f the board’s monthly conference calls.
4. Recommendations will be announced each month.
